Women's Soccer Records Shutout Win On Senior Day
Oct. 21, 2007 CINCINNATI - Today was Senior Day at Xavier, a day to celebrate the contributions of six Musketeer senior women's soccer players. Appropriately, the seniors continued the celebration by making major contributions to a 2-0 win over previously unbeaten Atlantic 10 Conference rival Xavier took the lead in the ninth minute and never looked back. Senior Carissa Gilbert took a pass from junior Christine Chuck and drilled a long shot over the outstretched arms of SLU goalkeeper Dominique Turk. XU led 1-0 just 8:01 into the match. XU took its 1-0 lead into halftime. The Musketeers came out with same high energy to start the second half, scoring an insurance goal in the 51st minute. Junior Melissa Zimmerman took a pass inside the box from Chuck and placed a shot inside the right corner of the goal. Chuck earned her second assist of the match. Xavier snapped a four-match losing streak today, raising its records to 3-5-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference and 4-12-1 overall. The Musketeers outshot the Billikens 11-7, including a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal. Xavier senior Anne Finnerty started in goal today and was relieved by sophomore Kelly Farrell. The two combined for the shutout with two saves. Xavier honored the seniors and their parents before today's match. The six seniors are Shannon Chambers, Jillian Chuck, Anne Finnerty, Carissa Gilbert, Karin Martini and Allison Osborne.
