The XU women's team heads into Saturday's finals in second while the men are in fourth
 
 
More Record-Breaking Times for Swim Teams at A-10's

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Xavier men's and women's swim teams continue to turn in school-record times on the final day of the 2008 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championship at the Flickinger Athletics Center on the campus of Erie Community College. The Musketeers head into Saturday night's finals with the men in fourth place and the women in second.

In the first event of the morning, junior Mary Catherine Mahon posted a new school-recod time of 2:05.87 in the 200 Backstroke, earning her a six seed for tonight's final. senior Mary Kuhnen and freshman Holly Hoover will be swimming in the consolation final for that event as well.

For the men in the 200 Back, all five participants in the prelims will be swimming in the finals of that event. Sophomore Mickey Hafertepe placed eighth with his time of 1:53.36 and will swim in the championship final while senior Matt Krouse, freshman Terence Mahon, freshman Andrew Viglione and junior Jake Burke will be competing in the consolation final.

Three XU women qualified for the finals in the 100 Freestyle as sophomore Elaina Suba earned the fourth seed with her time of 52.25. Freshman Bethanie Griffin is seeded seventh (52.81) and sophomore Alison Johnson finished 15th (53.42). On the men's side, freshman Nathan Green (46.85) will swim in the consolation finals.


 

 

Sophomore Martha Cutter-Wilson set the second record of the day with a 2:19.81 performance in the 200 Breaststroke, earning a third seed for the finals. Cutter-Wilson's classmate Kelsey Burns also made it back and will swim in the consolation finals of the event.

In the same event for the men, sophomore Mark Febus turned in the fourth highest time of the morning with a time of 2:06.80. Junior Matt Marcus will be swimming in the consolation final of the 200 Breast.

The third school record fell in the women's 200 Butterfly as junior Alissa Schriner turned it up to place fourth with her time of 2:06.32. Junior Jill Winhusen will swim in the consoaltion final of the 200 Fly as well.

All three men swimming in the 200 Butterfly prelims return for the evening session as freshman John Roof placed second overall with a time of 1:53.03 and senior Nico Lilly will be seeded fifth (1:53.80). Senior Brian Stromberg will be participating in the consolation final of the event as well.

The men's foursome of Krouse, Hafertepe, Viglione and Mahon set a new school record in the 400 Freestyle Relay during time trials following the morning's prelims events with a time of 1:24.51.
